Winter Holidays

Winter is a magical time for children in Belarus and the UK because of wonderful holidays. In Belarus, New Year is the main winter holiday. Families decorate a New Year tree, cook delicious food like "Olivier" salad, and wait for Father Frost (Ded Moroz) and his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden. They leave presents under the tree at midnight on December 31st.

In the United Kingdom, children wait for Christmas, which is on December 25th. They believe that Santa Claus brings them presents. He doesn't have a granddaughter; he travels alone in a sleigh pulled by reindeer. British children hang big Christmas stockings over the fireplace, and Santa puts small gifts and sweets inside them.

Belarusian people also celebrate Christmas, but many families do it on January 7th. Both countries love winter holidays because they bring families together.
