The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated in Europe, on the British Isles. It is an island country. About 56 million people live in the UK.

People call their country Great Britain for short because it is the name of the biggest island. There are also about 2,000 smaller islands.

There are four parts in the UK – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of England. Cardiff is the capital of Wales. Edinburg is the capital of Scotland. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland.

People who live in Great Britain are the British. They all speak English, the official language of the country.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the country of long history and many interesting traditions.
