Christmas in Britain

Peopla in Britain prepare for Christmas about forthnight before Christmas. They send cards, watch nativity plays and pantomimes, go carol singing.

They put up decorations inside and outside homes. The main Christmas decorations are evergreens, such as holly, mistletoe and ivy. They decorate Christmas cards on the wall. On the 25th of December they open their presents, have Christmas dinner with their family, relatives and friends. A typical Christmas meal is roast turkey, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts or other vegetables and gravy. They watch television, listen to the Queen's Message in the afternoon. And as Christmas day is when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, many British go to locak church services.
