Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night is celebrated on 5th of November in Britain.

When Queen Elizabeth I took the throne of England, she made some laws against the Roman Catholics.

People hoped that King James I would change the laws, but he didn't.

Guy Fawkes and some other Catholics plotted to kill King James and blow up the House of Parliament.

They bought a house next door to the parliament building and wanted to put gunpowder in the cellar of the house.

Guy Fawkes was arrested.

In celebration of his survival King James ordered to make a great bonfire on the night of 5th November.

This holiday is commemorated annually in England.

People burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes, bake potatoes wrapped in foil, a sticky cake and marshmallows in the fire.
